Karamoor Estate in Fort Washington is a 250-acre property purchased by Nicholas and Athena Karabots in the early 2000s. Though the Karabots initially plated grape vines for their visual appeal, they eventually leveraged their sizable fortune to create a top-tier winery in the Philadelphia area.

The name “Karamoor” is a blend of “Karabots” and “moor,” reflecting the founders’ heritage and the landscape of the estate. The 27-acre vineyard was planted in 2006, with the first vines being primarily Bordeaux varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, alongside other popular varietals like Chardonnay and Viognier.

Karamoor Estate has invested significantly in both viticulture and winemaking, employing advanced techniques and technologies to ensure the highest quality of their wine production. The winery itself was completed in 2012 and features state-of-the-art facilities for winemaking, including a gravity flow system and an underground barrel cellar. Winemaker Kevin Robinson joined shortly thereafter, coming to PA with a degree from UC Davis and stints at prominent Napa wineries.

Karamoor Estate has garnered attention for its award-winning wines, which have been recognized in various competitions and reviews. The estate is noted for its commitment to producing estate-grown and bottled wines, meaning all aspects of production, from grape growing to bottling, occur on the property.
