Grandview began in the early 2000s when Larry Kennel, a Mennonite father, began making wine as a hobby. His children were surprised by this, as they had never seen him consume alcohol before. Larry dedicated himself to making fruit wines, using harvested wineberries and elderberries to create his specialty: completely dry fruit wines. He immersed himself in the knowledge of winemaking by reading books, attending conferences, and seeking guidance from wine enthusiasts and experts.

Larry’s dream of establishing a vineyard took shape when he discovered that the soil on his family’s farm was remarkably suitable for grape cultivation. He shared his vision with his family, and with their support, they began planting the vineyard in 2009. In 2011, six members from two generations of the Kennel family founded The Vineyard at Grandview, LLC.

Two years later, in 2013, they opened the tasting room and deck, which is now known as Grandview Vineyard. Today, Scott and Sarah Haines, along with their children, continue the family tradition, with occasional help from officially retired Larry.
