1723 Vineyards

In 2014, Sarah and Ben Cody — 5th generation farmers from the midwest — purchased 36 acres of the historic McMaster farm in Landenberg, PA and founded 1723 Vineyards.

1723’s dry hybrid wines show the most potential thus far, with the Chambourcin Reserve forcing even the most avid Chambo skeptics (ahem) to rethink their position on the grape. The Chardonel — a white Chardonnay hybrid with clear potential here in PA — is also fresh and well-balanced.

The winery’s vitis vinifera (European grape) wines also show potential, but are too often marred with east coast twang at this stage.

That said, 1723 Vineyards is certainly one to watch.
